Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest secular fraternal societies. The following information is intended to explain Freemasonry as it is practised under the United Grand Lodge of England which administers Lodges of Freemasons in England and Wales and in many places overseas.

Ignoring a host of mythology and misinformation, the only thing indisputable about our history is that “craft” masonry, whatever its relationship with operative lodges, became visible in England in the seventeenth century.
Aurora Lodge History
Aurora, the dawn, is a symbol of hope
Aurora lodge came officially into this world on 24th March 1920. Twenty members of Coronation Lodge, No 2922, formed the new organisation. Whatever the optimum size of a Masonic Lodge might be, Coronation had well exceeded it and was embarrassed in having to turn away suitable candidates, and worse, losing members through not having enough positions to adequately employ and advance the junior brethren.
Becoming a Mason
To be one, Ask one.
Freemasonry is proud of its philosophy and practice of “making good men better.” Only individuals believed to be of good character are favourably considered for membership. Applicants are usually at least twenty-one years of age, although a dispensation may be applied for in respect of younger candidates. This dispensation is especially relevant to the UGLE Universities scheme.
